EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. – A Centralia man is behind bars after a string of violent crimes. Ian N. Merideth, 38, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in burglarizing a home in Hoffman, Illinois, and possessing a stolen firearm.
According to court documents, Merideth broke into a home on July 9, 2021, and stole seven firearms, including a Weihrauch .357 revolver. Later that day, Wamac Officer Muechenheim stopped Merideth and attempted to arrest him for an outstanding arrest warrant. However, Merideth, a convicted felon, retrieved the stolen firearm and fired four rounds at the officer.
Merideth was convicted of Possession of a Stolen Firearm and being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He received a $500 fine and was ordered to pay $200 in special assessment fees. Following his release, he will spend three years on supervised release.
The case was investigated by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Wamac Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Springfield Field Office.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Hudson.
Merideth’s attempted murder charges remain pending in Clinton County Circuit Court.
The sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences of committing violent crimes in our community. Merideth’s actions put innocent lives at risk, and he will now face the consequences of his actions.
