Illegal Re-Entry: Reveles-Martinez Sentenced to 13 Months

Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Manuel Reveles-Martinez, a 33-year-old Mexican citizen, has been sentenced to thirteen months in federal prison for illegal re-entry into the United States after being removed as a felon. The sentence comes after Reveles-Martinez pleaded guilty on September 15, 2014, to one count of illegal re-entry.

Reveles-Martinez, who had previously been convicted of operating while intoxicated (OWI) five times, including OWI third offense in 2006, admitted to re-entering the country without permission after being deported on November 8, 2013. He was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Cedar Rapids on July 10, 2014.

The sentencing was handled by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade in Cedar Rapids. In addition to the prison term, Reveles-Martinez faces a $100 special assessment and must serve a three-year term of supervised release following his release from prison. There is no parole in the federal system.

Reveles-Martinez is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody pending transport to a federal prison. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel C. Tvedt and investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations.
