GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Alexander Krivozus, a 42-year-old man from Carmel, Indiana, has been charged by a grand jury in Ohio with perjury, obstruction of justice, and making false statements. The charges stem from his alleged involvement in a secret bank account at UBS and the subsequent investigation into it.
According to court documents, Krivozus is accused of lying during interviews and before a grand jury about knowing details related to wire transfers from UBS to Latvia. He also stands accused of lying about his connection to the fax number linked by the government to the bank transactions. Krivozus was subpoenaed to testify after records from UBS were received by the Department of Justice and IRS, revealing the hidden account belonging to Cleveland resident Edward Gurary.
Gurary was eventually arrested and pleaded guilty to filing false income tax returns for several years. The charges against Krivozus, who has been indicted on two counts of making false statements, one count of perjury, and one count of obstruction of justice, could result in a lengthy prison sentence and substantial fines.
The IRS Criminal Investigation Division conducted the investigation into this matter, with trial attorney Richard M. Rolwing and Assistant United States Attorney Robert Patton leading the prosecution. Krivozus faces up to five years in prison on each charge, along with a fine of $250,000 and three years of supervised release following any potential sentence.
