Two Iowa men have been unmasked as the masterminds behind a brazen robbery plot on a Nebraska business, according to recent federal court documents. Terrence Miles, 20, of Sioux City, and Austin Peters, also known as Austin Stadler, 19, from Nemaha, Iowa, have each admitted to one count of conspiracy to commit robbery, one count of possessing a short-barreled rifle, and one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.
Their scheme unraveled on June 19, 2012, when the duo met with others to plot the theft from Seoul Foods in South Sioux City. They didn’t just stop there; Miles and Peters acquired firearms and other weapons, including one with a modified barrel less than 26 inches long, all within the borders of Sioux City, Iowa.
Their journey continued as they drove to Nebraska, armed and dangerous. On arrival, Miles and an accomplice broke into Seoul Foods, while Peters served as lookout and getaway driver. Their heist was successful, with thousands in cash and property making its way back to Sioux City for division.
Now facing the music, both men await sentencing before United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett. They’re looking at up to 20 years’ imprisonment for conspiracy to commit robbery, plus additional penalties for their weapon charges. The most severe charge carries a mandatory minimum of 10 years and could lock them away for life.
Their court file is open for inspection at https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl, under case number CR 12-4083. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Sioux City, Iowa, and South Sioux City, Nebraska, police departments, with Assistant United States Attorney Forde Fairchild leading the prosecution.
Miles and Peters remain in the custody of the United States Marshal until their fate is decided by the court. This case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences for those who plot to terrorize innocent businesses and communities.
