Iowa Human Trafficking Ring Exposed

The streets of Iowa are getting a little safer, thanks to a coordinated effort by law enforcement agencies to combat human trafficking. In a press conference held at the Marion Police Department, officials from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and local authorities revealed their plans to tackle this heinous crime.

U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa will be joining forces with Homeland Security Investigations, the Marion Police Department, Iowa DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement, and Cedar Rapids Gives to combat human trafficking and assist victims. This effort comes as President Barack Obama signed a Presidential Proclamation declaring January as National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month.

The event will take place on January 25th at the Marion Police Department’s Training Center, 6315 US-151, Marion, Iowa. At 10:30 a.m., officials will discuss their efforts to combat human trafficking and aid victims. A press release will be provided, and interview opportunities will be available following the press conference.

Also attending the press conference will be a victim-survivor of human trafficking, who will share their story and highlight the importance of combating this crime. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Blue Campaign will also be discussed, which can be learned more about at www.dhs.gov/blue-campaign.

By joining forces, these agencies hope to make a significant impact on human trafficking in Iowa. “We are committed to protecting the citizens of Iowa from this despicable crime,” said officials. “Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to those affected by human trafficking.”

The event is open to the public, and the press is encouraged to attend. Follow the U.S. Attorney’s Office on Twitter @USAO_NDIA for updates and information on this and other important cases.

In a statement, officials emphasized the importance of community involvement in combating human trafficking. “We need the public’s help to identify and report suspicious activity. Together, we can make a difference and keep our communities safe.”
