Laurens Man Sentenced in Federal Court for Robbing Pharmacy at Gunpoint

Iquill Wayne Morrison, 22, of Laurens, South Carolina, was sentenced in federal court in Greenville to 114 months in prison followed by a term of supervised release. Morrison pled guilty on February 28, 2017, to committing a Hobbs Act (armed) robbery, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1951, and for the use and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 924(c).

According to evidence presented at the change of plea hearing, on August 25, 2016, Morrison entered the Drug-Lo Pharmacy located in Laurens brandishing a firearm and demanding money. Morrison pointed the gun at employees, robbed the store of approximately $305, and then fled on foot. Officers responded quickly and found Morrison hiding nearby in the woods. Post-arrest, Morrison confessed to the armed robbery. Morrison showed officers where he disposed of the firearm and a backpack after the robbery.

The recovered firearm Morrison used in the robbery was a loaded .38 caliber revolver. The Laurens Police Department, the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Max Cauthen in the Greenville U.S. Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case.

The evidence presented in court led to Morrison’s guilty plea and subsequent sentencing. Morrison will serve 114 months in prison followed by a term of supervised release. The sentence reflects the seriousness of Morrison’s crime and the need to protect the public from violent offenders.
