Local Man Sentenced for Drug and Firearms Crimes
A Monongalia County man has been sentenced to 60 months incarceration for drug and firearms charges, announced United States Attorney Bill Powell. Isaiah Davis, 27, of Morgantown, West Virginia, pled guilty to one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine Hydrochloride and one count of Use of a Firearm During and in Relation to a Drug Offense in August 2018.
Davis admitted to possessing and distributing cocaine in Monongalia County in October 2017. He also admitted to having a .40 caliber pistol, which was used during a drug offense, in January 2018 in Monongalia County.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime. The program focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Zelda E. Wesley prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Morgantown Police Department investigated.
Senior U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided over the case. Davis’s sentence will run concurrently with any other federal or state sentences he may be serving.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat violent crime in West Virginia. As part of the PSN program, law enforcement agencies are working together to identify and prosecute the most violent offenders.
Isaiah Davis’s case is a prime example of the success of the PSN program. His sentence will serve as a deterrent to others who engage in similar activities.
