A Chesapeake man has been sentenced to 31 years in prison for sexually abusing a child.
Jacob Earl Gilmore, 38, was sentenced to 380 months in prison for the heinous crime that occurred at St. Julian’s Creek Annex in July or August 2017.
According to court documents, Gilmore brought the minor girl to his office on the installation and sexually abused her multiple times.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) investigated the case and learned that Gilmore had been escorting the girl onto the installation for years.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Gilmore’s sentencing should serve as a warning to child sexual predators that they will be exposed and rooted out, said Gregory Scovel, NCIS Special Agent in Charge of the Norfolk Field Office.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, led by U.S. Attorney G. Zachary Terwilliger, prosecuted the case.
Sentencing was made by U.S. District Judge Arenda Wright Allen. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew J. Heck prosecuted the case.
