BOSTON – A brazen daylight robbery shook the quiet streets of Cambridge on May 20, 2022, when a suspect stormed into the TD Bank on Massachusetts Ave. and made off with cash.
The suspect, later identified as 40-year-old Jalonni Shabazz, a/k/a Jalonni Tucker, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston on charges related to the heist.
According to the indictment, on May 20, 2022, at approximately 12:49 p.m., a suspect wearing a royal blue baseball hat and surgical mask entered the TD Bank and handed the teller a note demanding all the money without dye packs or alarms. The suspect then fled on foot after taking cash from the teller.
Investigators found a royal blue baseball hat consistent with the one worn by the suspect during the robbery, which allegedly contained DNA belonging to Shabazz. Surveillance footage from the bank also identified Shabazz’s features, including his tattoos, hair, and clothing, as matching those of the suspect.
At the time of the alleged robbery, Shabazz was on supervised release following a 2017 federal conviction for two bank robberies, for which he was sentenced to 54 months in prison.
Shabazz faces a maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment and up to three years of supervised release, as well as a $250,000 fine, if convicted. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Boston.
