James Daniel Bloodworth, Armed Robbery and Carjacking, North Carolina 2017

A Raleigh man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for a series of armed robberies and carjackings in Wake and Durham counties.

JAMES DANIEL BLOODWORTH, 60, was sentenced to 175 months’ imprisonment followed by 3 years of supervised release by United States Senior District Judge W. Earl Britt.

BLOODWORTH was charged in a six-count indictment on January 31, 2018, and pled guilty on July 9, 2018 to two counts of interference with commerce by robbery and carjacking.

The crimes occurred between June 14 and June 16, 2017. On June 14, 2017, BLOODWORTH entered a CVS in Raleigh and stole $200 at gunpoint. The next day, he entered a Walgreens in Cary and stole $400 and cigarettes.

On June 16, 2017, BLOODWORTH carjacked a woman’s Toyota Camry in Durham. He was caught later that night fleeing the scene of another carjacking after a short chase.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime.

The investigation was conducted by the Raleigh Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney Erin Blondel handled the prosecution of this case for the government.
