New YORK – In a resounding victory for constitutional rights, New York Attorney General Letitia James today issued a statement reinforcing the protection of birthright citizenship. The U.S. District Court judge’s ruling upheld that all children born on American soil are indeed citizens.
‘As we have repeatedly said, birthright citizenship is the law of the land,’ James declared. ‘The Constitution is more than just mere words on parchment, it reflects our values. All children born on these shores are citizens bound to be respected under the law.’
The battle against a president’s unconstitutional executive order seeking to end birthright citizenship was led by Attorney General James and 18 other attorneys general. On January 21, they filed a lawsuit challenging this executive action.
Today, Judge Leo Sorokin issued a preliminary injunction, blocking the president’s order from taking effect nationwide. This decision has been hailed as a triumph for justice and the sanctity of the Constitution.
‘We are grateful to Judge Sorokin for his wise decision to uphold our country’s fundamental values,’ James concluded. ‘This ruling sends a clear message that the law will not be ignored, and we will continue to fight for the rights of all Americans.’
This landmark ruling is expected to have far-reaching implications, solidifying birthright citizenship as a cornerstone of American democracy.
