BAKERSFIELD, CA – James Escandon, 39, is facing federal charges after Bakersfield Police and ATF agents caught him with a stolen semi-automatic handgun on October 18th. The bust isn’t just about a stolen gun; it’s about a repeat offender flouting the law, putting the public at risk. Escandon already has a rap sheet for being a felon in possession of a firearm, along with a drug conviction.

According to court documents unsealed today, Escandon’s possession of the handgun is a clear violation of federal law. As a convicted felon, he’s already legally barred from owning or possessing any firearms or ammunition. This wasn’t a first offense; authorities say he’s demonstrated a blatant disregard for those restrictions before.

The investigation, a joint effort between the Bakersfield Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), highlights the ongoing struggle to keep guns out of the hands of those who shouldn’t have them.
