New York – In a resounding victory for New York’s infrastructure, Attorney General Letitia James announced today that the frozen funding for the Gateway Program’s Hudson Tunnel Project has been fully released. This comes as a direct result of James’ successful lawsuit against the Trump administration.
The AG revealed that the illegal funding freeze was lifted, with nearly $130 million in funds now available to restart construction on the vital project. ‘This funding freeze was unlawful from the start,’ James stated. ‘Every dollar that was illegally withheld has been released. Hardworking New Yorkers can now get back on the job and move forward with this critical infrastructure project.’
James’ office had previously sued the Trump administration to halt the months-long freeze of Hudson Tunnel funding, which threatened to shut down construction immediately. On February 6th, James secured a temporary restraining order requiring the federal government to release over $200 million in overdue funds. The administration began complying with this order, releasing $30 million on February 13th, followed by an additional $77 million earlier this week.
‘We will remain vigilant to ensure this funding continues uninterrupted,’ James emphasized. ‘Workers and commuters should never again be left in limbo due to unlawful actions.’ James also vowed to continue fighting in court to save the Gateway permanently for the millions of workers and riders that depend on it.
This victory is a significant win for New York State’s infrastructure efforts, ensuring the Hudson Tunnel Project can proceed without further delay. The release of funds marks a crucial step towards completing this essential project for the region.
