James Slams Trump for Illegal Guard Deployment

New York – New York Attorney General Letitia James today joined forces with a coalition of 17 other attorneys general to denounce the Trump administration’s decision to federalize and deploy the California National Guard against protestors, without prior consent from state leaders.

“The president’s action is not only unlawful and unconstitutional but also undemocratic,” stated James. “Instead of working with local authorities to ensure safety, the federal administration has mobilized military forces against its own citizens.”

The attorneys general emphasized their commitment to protecting communities and opposing violence in any form, supporting California Attorney General Rob Bonta in his legal challenge to this illegal conduct.

“We oppose any action from this administration that threatens chaos, inflames tensions, and endangers lives, including those of our own law enforcement,” the group concluded.

Attorney General James was joined by her counterparts from Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, and Vermont in issuing this strong rebuke to the Trump administration’s actions.

This joint statement underscores the nationwide concern over the misuse of federal authority at the expense of local governance and community safety.
