A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to light in Iowa, with a 41-year-old Mason City man pleading guilty to distributing child pornography in federal court.
Jamison Miller, a resident of Mason City, Iowa, was convicted of one count of distribution of child pornography, a serious offense that carries severe penalties.
According to the guilty plea, Miller admitted to distributing child pornography between September 2012 and April 2013. He also revealed that he had been previously convicted of an offense related to the possession of child pornography in 2000.
The case against Miller was investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, as part of the nationwide Project Safe Childhood initiative.
Project Safe Childhood is a federal initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
As a result of the guilty plea, Miller faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of 40 years’ imprisonment, as well as a $250,000 fine and a $100 special assessment.
Miller remains in the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing, which will be set after a presentence report is prepared.
