Fort Myers, Florida – In a shocking turn of events, a convicted felon has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for selling firearms to a confidential informant.
According to court documents, Jarrett Parker Truman, a 25-year-old resident of Fort Myers, was found to be in possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and an unregistered firearm. Truman had pleaded guilty to the charges on October 22, 2021.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) used a confidential informant to make controlled purchases of firearms from Truman in January and February 2020. During this time, Truman sold the informant a total of eight firearms, including four handguns, an AK-47 style pistol, and a rifle. Additionally, Truman sold a non-serialized rifle equipped with a silencer, which he had failed to register with the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.
As a previously convicted felon, Truman is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law. This reckless disregard for the law put the community at risk and will now result in Truman facing the consequences of his actions.
This case was investigated by the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shannon Laurie.
The case was prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, which is an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.
In this case, the PSN program focused enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partnered with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
