A 45-year-old man from Mishongnovi Village, Second Mesa, Arizona, has been sentenced to 46 months in prison for assaulting a federal officer.
Jarvis Cook, an enrolled member of the Hopi Tribe, was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge Susan R. Bolton for his role in the assault, which occurred on February 10, 2016.
According to court documents, Cook resisted arrest and assaulted the officer, who was an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, when the officer attempted to arrest him for an active warrant.
The officer was left with serious injuries after a lengthy struggle with Cook.
The investigation into the assault was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs – Office of Justice Services (Hopi Agency).
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander Samuels, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
Cook was sentenced to 46 months of imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release.
