Jasmine Weber, Conspiracy to Commit Hobbs Act Robbery, Florida 2023

Robberies Masquerading as Law Enforcement

Tampa, Florida – A brazen scheme involving armed robberies, shootings, and impersonation of law enforcement officers has landed a former claims adjuster in federal prison. Jasmine Weber, 28, of Tampa, was sentenced to five years in prison for her role in the conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act Robbery.

According to court documents, between December 2020 and April 2021, Weber was aware of a group of individuals who conspired to commit armed robberies throughout Pasco, Polk, Lee, and Hillsborough Counties. The group, dressed as law enforcement officers, targeted unsuspecting victims, leaving some battered, pistol-whipped, and shot.

Weber’s involvement in the scheme was significant, as she used her employment as a claims adjuster to research the potential victims on her Lexus Nexus account, locating their home addresses. She then provided the co-conspirators with the identifying information, enabling them to carry out the robberies.

The investigation, led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, revealed that Weber had also purchased equipment for the co-conspirators, including Sheriff’s vests, law enforcement patches, and light bars, to aid in their crimes.

Assistant United States Attorney Diego F. Novaes prosecuted the case, which involved a collaborative effort from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the Bartow Police Department, and the Lakeland Police Department.

Weber pleaded guilty on January 20, 2023, and was subsequently sentenced to five years in federal prison. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of crimes masquerading as law enforcement.

As a journalist, it is our duty to shed light on such egregious crimes and hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
