A Palmyra man has been sentenced to 12+ years in prison for accessing child sexual abuse materials, according to a recent federal court ruling in Maine.
Jason Colcord, 44, was sentenced to 145 months in prison and five years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Lance E. Walker. He was also ordered to pay $8,000 in restitution.
Colcord pleaded guilty on November 19, 2021, to one count of access with intent to view child pornography. The charges stem from an incident in which Colcord knowingly accessed a phone that contained images of child pornography between December 2019 and February 2020.
According to court records, many of the images involved prepubescent minors who had not attained the age of 12. Colcord downloaded multiple images using an online peer-to-peer file sharing network and viewed the images on his phone.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006.
Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
If you have information about child sexual exploitation, you can report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at www.cybertipline.com or 1-800-843-5678.
