Felon Facing Federal Gun Charges in Pittsburgh
A 32-year-old Allegheny County resident has been hit with federal gun charges after a grand jury indicted him on two counts in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The defendant, Jason T. Korey, was named in a Superseding Indictment returned on March 11 for his alleged involvement in the possession of a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon, and possession of a stolen firearm.
According to the indictment, Korey’s crime took place on or about April 17, 2014, in Allegheny County. Federal law prohibits an individual who has been convicted of a felony from possessing a firearm.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $500,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history of the defendant.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Barbara Doolittle and Cindy K. Chung on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation leading to the Superseding Indictment in this case.
A Superseding Indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Jason T. Korey, a convicted felon, faces a maximum total sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $500,000, or both, for his alleged involvement in the possession of a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon, and possession of a stolen firearm. The case is ongoing, and Korey’s status is currently unknown.
