A brazen daylight bank robbery in Garland, Texas, left a trail of fear and destruction in its wake. On October 25, 2013, Jason Wayne Hulsebus, 34, walked into the Bank of America branch located at 5402 North President George Bush Highway and demanded cash from a teller.
Hulsebus, who was subsequently identified as the perpetrator, handed the teller a piece of paper with a threatening message that read, ‘Do not scream! I will not hurt you! Give me all the money in the drawer now!’ The teller, in fear for her life, complied with Hulsebus’s demands and placed the cash in a Wal-Mart bag provided by the suspect.
The getaway was short-lived, as Hulsebus held what appeared to be a BB pistol in his hand while standing at the teller counter. However, due to the counter’s height, the teller never saw the weapon. Hulsebus then fled the scene with the stolen cash.
On November 13, 2013, Hulsebus was arrested on a federal criminal complaint. The investigation, led by the Garland Police Department and the FBI, recovered evidence linking Hulsebus to the crime.
In February 2014, Hulsebus pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery. On [current date], he was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison and ordered to pay $10,090 in restitution.
Hulsebus’s sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of committing violent crimes. The Garland community can rest easier knowing that justice has been served.
