Jay Adams, Jr., First Degree Murder, South Dakota 1992

In a chilling case of cold-blooded murder, Jay Adams, Jr., age 57, has been indicted for First Degree Murder in Sisseton, South Dakota.

According to a federal grand jury, Adams allegedly killed a minor victim on September 4, 1992 in Roberts County by inflicting fatal blunt force trauma.

The maximum penalty upon conviction is mandatory life in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

Adams appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Daneta L. Wollmann on April 17, 2023 and pleaded not guilty to the Indictment.

The investigation is being conducted by the Sisseton-Wahpeton Tribal Police and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley is prosecuting the case.

Adams was released on conditions pending trial. A trial date has not been set.

The charge is merely an accusation, and Adams is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
