Jay Leavitt, Distribution of Child Pornography, Alaska 2023

Grimy Times has learned that a 27-year-old Anchorage man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for distributing child pornography.

Jay Leavitt, a resident of Anchorage, was found to have uploaded 55 images and eight video clips to his Twitter and Gmail accounts between March 27, 2017, and April 7, 2017. The images and videos depicted minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, this is not Leavitt’s first run-in with the law. He was previously sentenced in state court to three years of active imprisonment for attempted sexual abuse of a minor. He was released from prison but continued to engage in illicit activities, including distributing child pornography, while on probation supervision.

Leavitt’s state probation supervision included polygraph examinations, but he was able to deceive the lie detector test by falsely denying the new offense. This was a serious breach of trust, and his actions have had a significant impact on the victims of child pornography.

The investigation into Leavitt’s activities was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Anchorage Police Department (APD). The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Attorney’s Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS).

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has announced that Leavitt will serve 20 years in prison, followed by supervised release for the remainder of his lifetime. This sentence reflects the seriousness of the crime and the harm caused to the victims.

The case highlights the importance of addressing the issue of child exploitation and abuse. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work tirelessly to identify and prosecute individuals who engage in these heinous crimes.
