A Des Moines Woman’s Descent into Methamphetamine Dealing Ends in Federal Prison
Jeana Jo Johnson, a 35-year-old woman from Des Moines, Iowa, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for conspiring to distribute methamphetamine in Kossuth County.
The conviction stems from a July 22, 2014, guilty plea to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, a charge that carries significant penalties in the federal system. Johnson’s involvement in the conspiracy lasted from 2012 through February 2014.
Prosecutors revealed that Johnson was caught delivering one ounce of methamphetamine to a customer in Kossuth County and admitted to obtaining the illicit substance from her source in Des Moines, Iowa, for distribution in Kossuth County.
Johnson’s history of involvement in the manufacture of methamphetamine dates back to 2003, when she was previously convicted of two counts of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine. Her latest sentence reflects a serious escalation of her crimes, and the harsh penalties associated with them.
U.S. District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett handed down the sentence in Sioux City, Iowa, on October 30, 2014. Johnson was also ordered to pay a special assessment of $100 and serve a five-year term of supervised release upon completion of her prison term. With no parole options available in the federal system, Johnson will serve out her sentence without the possibility of early release.
The case was investigated by the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Department of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Iowa Division of Criminalistics Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn S. Wehde prosecuted the case, bringing a successful conclusion to the investigation and securing a substantial sentence for Johnson.
Johnson is currently being held in the custody of the U.S. Marshals pending transportation to a federal prison to begin serving her sentence.
