A 31-year-old Jefferson County man has been sentenced to 87 months in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm, announced U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Special Agent in Charge Marcus Watson.
U.S. District Court Judge Madeline H. Haikala handed down the sentence to Terrell Corey McMullin of Fairfield, a conviction stemming from a jury verdict in October 2023. McMullin was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to evidence presented at trial, on February 1, 2022, a Pleasant Grove police officer conducted a traffic stop on McMullin’s vehicle. When the officer attempted to make contact, McMullin sped away, leading to a high-speed chase. The pursuit ended when McMullin lost control of the vehicle and wrecked a short distance later.
McMullin fled on foot, but was eventually apprehended after crossing into the Fairfield city limits. During the search of the abandoned vehicle, the officer found a stolen Glock 9mm pistol with an installed “Glock switch,” a device designed to convert a semiautomatic Glock pistol into a fully automatic machine gun, in the driver’s seat.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together law enforcement and community leaders to foster trust and legitimacy.
The ATF investigated the case in conjunction with the Pleasant Grove Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael A. Royster and William R. McComb handling the prosecution.
McMullin’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of committing crimes with firearms, especially for those who have previously been convicted of felonies.
