Rochester, NY – In a shocking case of betrayal, Jennifer Passeck, a former Relief Postmaster in the Sodus Point, NY post office, has been indicted on charges of embezzling and converting to her own use proceeds and property of the United States Postal Service.
The indictment, returned by a federal grand jury in Rochester, NY, alleges that Passeck stole stamps, money orders and post office box rental payments totaling $19,504 during her time at the post office between March 2013 and March 2015.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Bradley E. Tyler, Passeck’s actions are a serious breach of trust and a betrayal of the public’s confidence in the postal service.
The investigation into Passeck’s activities was conducted by Inspectors of the United States Postal Service, Office of Inspector General, under the direction of Monica Weyler, Eastern Area Field Office, Philadelphia, PA.
Passeck, if convicted, faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
