The alleged incident occurred on August 6, 2025, and has left the community shaken. Gomez is currently being held in a halfway house pending trial, which has not yet been scheduled.
If convicted, Gomez faces up to 10 years in prison. The case has sparked concerns about violence in the region and the need for stronger measures to prevent such incidents.
Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, made the announcement today, highlighting the importance of investigating such crimes.
The Santa Fe Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with assistance from the Taos Pueblo Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Zachary C. Jones is prosecuting the case.
It’s worth noting that an indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
