A former corrections officer at the Alabama Department of Corrections’ Limestone Correctional Facility has pleaded guilty to bribery charges in a federal court.
John Paul Ketteman, 28, of Huntsville, Alabama, pleaded guilty to receipt of a bribe by an agent or organization receiving federal funds before U.S. District Judge Liles C. Burke.
According to the plea agreement, Ketteman was employed as a corrections officer at the Limestone Correctional Facility in Harvest, Alabama, in the Fall of 2022. As part of his job duties, Ketteman was responsible for inspecting prison cells for contraband and supervising inmates.
However, an investigation by the Alabama Department of Corrections’ Law Enforcement Services Division revealed that Ketteman was paid more than $10,000 to smuggle contraband into the facility and to act as a lookout.
Cash App records obtained by investigators revealed that Ketteman received the bribes over a period of less than three months in 2022.
The investigation was conducted in partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Secret Service.
Ketteman is scheduled to be sentenced on June 24, 2025, and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John M. Hundscheid.
