Jon Pieter Vanbreemen, Sex Offense Against a Minor, West Virginia 2023

BECKLEY, W.Va. – A horrific crime has shaken the community as a Virginia man pleaded guilty to traveling in interstate commerce to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.

Jon Pieter Vanbreemen, 41, of Low Moor, Virginia, was arrested by law enforcement in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, after traveling from Covington, Virginia, with the intention of engaging in illicit sexual contact with two minor girls. The arrest took place on May 9, 2023.

Vanbreemen’s actions have put him on the radar of law enforcement, and he now faces severe consequences. According to court documents and statements made in court, Vanbreemen’s intentions were to engage in illicit sexual contact with the minor girls. This egregious offense has sparked outrage, and the community is awaiting the outcome of the case.

The maximum penalty Vanbreemen faces is 30 years in prison, along with at least five years and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. Additionally, Vanbreemen must register as a sex offender, which will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on his life.

United States Attorney Will Thompson commended the investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Violent Crimes Against Children Task Force, which played a pivotal role in bringing Vanbreemen to justice. The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

A United States District Judge, Frank W. Volk, presided over the hearing, while Assistant United States Attorneys Francesca C. Rollo and Jennifer Rada Herrald are prosecuting the case. The community is eagerly awaiting the sentencing hearing, which is scheduled to take place on November 3, 2023.
