LAKE CHARLES, LA – Jordan C. Soileau, 33, of Lake Charles, is facing a long stretch in federal prison after a brutal domestic assault led police to a cache of illegal weapons at his residence. Soileau was sentenced by U.S. District Judge James D. Cain, Jr. to 110 months incarceration, followed by three years of supervised release, for possession of firearms and ammunition by a convicted felon, and possession of an unregistered firearm silencer.
The case began on April 9, 2022, when Lake Charles Police Department officers responded to a harrowing report: Soileau had viciously attacked a woman, beating her into unconsciousness. Disturbingly, the assault was captured on video, clearly identifying Soileau as the perpetrator. The footage showed him punching the victim repeatedly, rendering her unconscious before throwing her to the ground and continuing the assault, even smashing her cell phone. Investigators later discovered the victim had been brought back to their shared home by Soileau after the attack.
Arriving at Soileau’s home to investigate the abuse and ensure the victim’s safety, officers immediately observed several firearms in plain sight. A subsequent search, authorized by a warrant, uncovered a total of nine firearms, including a particularly dangerous Anderson Manufacturing, Model AM-15 semi-automatic rifle. This weapon had been illegally modified with both a silencer device and an auto-sear conversion device, effectively transforming it into a machinegun. Authorities also seized a significant quantity of ammunition in various calibers and several large capacity magazines. Evidence suggested Soileau had recently fired one of the weapons inside the residence.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) meticulously examined the seized firearms. Their analysis confirmed the AM-15 functioned as a machinegun, and that both the silencer and the conversion device were unregistered – a clear violation of federal law. Adding to the severity of the situation, Soileau had a prior felony conviction for simple burglary in Calcasieu Parish, making him legally prohibited from possessing any firearms or ammunition. This prior conviction played a key role in the sentencing.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Danny Siefker successfully argued that the evidence warranted an upward departure from the standard sentencing guidelines, leading to the lengthy 110-month sentence. Judge Cain clearly signaled that the combination of violent crime and illegal weaponry would not be tolerated. The investigation was a joint effort between the ATF and the Lake Charles Police Department, highlighting the collaborative approach to tackling violent offenders and illegal gun trafficking in the region.
Soileau’s case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by convicted felons possessing firearms, and the consequences of illegally modifying weapons. The lengthy sentence sends a clear message: those who endanger public safety through violence and illegal gun ownership will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. The US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana continues to prioritize cases involving firearms and violent crime.
