NEW ORLEANS, La. – A Houston man is behind bars after being sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a major fentanyl trafficking operation.

Jorge Isaac Gonzalez-Medina, 32, was handed down the mandatory minimum sentence by U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo on November 29, 2023, following a guilty plea to violating the Controlled Substances Act.

The charges stem from Gonzalez-Medina’s admission to possessing over 400 grams of fentanyl with the intent to distribute, as well as being in possession of three kilograms of fentanyl concealed in the rear axle of a vehicle.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney David Haller leading the prosecution.

Gonzalez-Medina was also ordered to pay a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

The sentencing marks a major victory in the ongoing fight against fentanyl trafficking in the state of Louisiana.

Gonzalez-Medina’s conviction serves as a reminder of the severe consequences for those caught engaging in this deadly crime.
