Columbia, South Carolina – Jorge Luis Marin-Villa, a 36-year-old man from Augusta, Georgia, was sentenced for Reentry of Removed Aliens in South Carolina.
Marin-Villa, who is a Mexican citizen, was previously deported two times and had previously been convicted of Reentry of a Removed Alien.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Marin-Villa was encountered by Department of Homeland Security/ICE-ERO officers on September 10, 2017 at the Aiken County Detention Center after being arrested for unrelated state charges.
Marin-Villa was sentenced to one year and one day imprisonment, with no supervised release because he is expected to be deported upon completion of his sentence.
Assistant United States Attorney William E. Day, II, of the Columbia office is prosecuting the case.
The evidence presented at the change of plea hearing established that Marin-Villa had previously been convicted of Reentry of a Removed Alien.
Marin-Villa’s sentence is a reflection of his history of violating U.S. immigration laws, and we hope that his deportation will serve as a deterrent to others who would seek to enter the country illegally.
