BANGOR, Maine – A Spanish man has pleaded guilty to illegally reentering the country after being previously removed, a crime that could land him up to two years in prison and a hefty fine.
Jose Angel Hidalgo-Torres, 20, was found in Calais shortly after illegally entering the United States on July 18, 2025. He was previously removed from the country in May 2024.
Hidalgo-Torres faces up to two years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000. He will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigative report by the U.S. Probation Office. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The U.S. Border Patrol investigated the case, uncovering evidence that led to Hidalgo-Torres’ guilty plea.
Hidalgo-Torres’ guilty plea is part of a broader effort to combat illegal immigration and the crimes that come with it. Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative, aims to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN), two key programs that work to combat organized crime and protect communities.
Hidalgo-Torres is set to be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigative report. Only then will a federal district court judge determine his final sentence.
