A brazen crime has shaken the community of Glenville, New York. On October 22, 2017, Jose Fontanez, a 36-year-old resident of Schenectady, New York, and his co-conspirator broke into Target Sports, Inc., a federally licensed firearms dealer located on Saratoga Road, and stole over 25 firearms.
The stolen firearms included pistols, shotguns, and rifles. Fontanez and his accomplices spent the following two days moving the stolen firearms between various locations in Schenectady and Amsterdam, New York, including private residences, a self-storage unit, and a motel.
Finally, on October 24, 2017, Fontanez and his co-conspirator transported the stolen firearms to Rochester, New York, with the help of additional accomplices.

As part of his guilty plea, Fontanez admitted to possessing, concealing, and storing stolen firearms and being a felon in possession of firearms. His prior felony conviction has left him facing a maximum of 10 years in prison on each count of conviction, for a total of 30 years.
Fontanez is scheduled to be sentenced on August 15, 2018, by Senior United States District Judge Norman A. Mordue. He faces a maximum $750,000 fine and up to 3 years of post-imprisonment supervised release.
The case is being investigated by the ATF, New York State Police, and the Glenville Police Department, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Wayne A. Myers and Joseph A. Giovannetti. This high-profile case is a testament to the dedication and hard work of law enforcement officials in their efforts to bring justice to the community.
