Four Mexican Nationals Charged with Illegally Reentering US
Four Mexican nationals unlawfully residing in Las Vegas made their initial court appearances today to face charges of illegally reentering the United States after previously being removed from the country.
The defendants, all Mexican nationals, are accused of violating federal immigration laws by reentering the country after being removed. The charges against them carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
The defendants’ names, ages, and cities of residence are as follows:
- Jose Francisco Lopez, 32, of Las Vegas
- Jose Reyes, 40, of Las Vegas
- Rogerio Hernandez, 35, of Las Vegas
- Carlos Alberto Mejia, 45, of Las Vegas
The defendants are charged with one count of reentry of a removed alien, in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326.
The charges against the defendants were announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada in conjunction with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Las Vegas.
A preliminary hearing has been set for April 10, 2024, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Peggy Leen.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Thomas M. Quinn and Nicole M. Maldonado.
The investigation was conducted by ICE HSI Las Vegas.
