RICHMOND, Va. – In a shocking turn of events, Jose Gimenez-Lobos, a 32-year-old member of the notorious MS-13 gang, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for conspiring to participate in the murder of a rival gang member.
The gruesome crime took place on Nov. 23, 2014, at an apartment in Richmond, where MS-13 members gathered with the victim, a member of the Sureño gang. According to court documents, Gimenez-Lobos, also known as ‘Terrible,’ encouraged his co-conspirators to confront the victim, who was subsequently beaten and stabbed multiple times.
The victim, who was found dead at the scene, was brutally attacked by Gimenez-Lobos and his accomplices, including co-defendants Darwin Solorzano-Quintanilla, age 29, and Francisco Lemus-Castillo, age 31. Solorzano-Quintanilla and Lemus-Castillo were previously sentenced to life imprisonment for their roles in the murder.
U.S. Attorney Jessica D. Aber described the case as a ‘clear example of the severe threat organized criminal gangs pose to our communities.’ The sentencing, which was announced by U.S. District Judge David J. Novak, brings an end to a lengthy investigation led by the FBI’s Richmond Field Office’s RAVE Task Force, along with significant assistance from the City of Richmond Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen W. Miller and Trial Attorney Matthew Hoff of the Criminal Division’s Organized Crime and Gang Section prosecuted the case. The conviction serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by organized crime and the importance of law enforcement’s tireless efforts to bring perpetrators to justice.
Gimenez-Lobos’ crime was a stark display of the normalization of petty violence often exhibited by organized gangs. The case highlights the severity of the threat that these organizations pose to our communities and underscores the importance of continued efforts to dismantle and prosecute these groups.
