LAREDO, Texas – A significant marijuana trafficking operation in Laredo, Texas, has been brought to justice with two men receiving hefty sentences for their role in the crime. According to a recent court ruling, Jose Luis Villalba, a 35-year-old Laredo resident, has been ordered to serve 120 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release.

Villalba pleaded guilty in October 2020, along with his accomplice, Hector Gonzalez, also 35 and from Laredo. The two men were found guilty of conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute 1,261.5 kilograms of marijuana, which has an approximate street value of $4 million.

The marijuana was transported inside a tractor-trailer past the Border Patrol checkpoint north of Laredo on July 9, 2016. Law enforcement intervened and recovered approximately 2,775 pounds of marijuana.
