RALEIGH, North Carolina – A federal grand jury in Raleigh has returned an indictment charging Jose Raymundo Rodriguez-Gonzalez, a 36-year-old man from Mexico, with Illegal Reentry of a Deported Alien.
The indictment alleges that Rodriguez-Gonzalez was found in Wake County and had been previously deported subsequent to an aggravated felony conviction for sexual battery. If convicted, he would face a maximum imprisonment term of 20 years, a $250,000 fine, and a term of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.
The charge and allegation contained in the indictment are merely accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
A federal grand jury in Raleigh returned the indictment charging Rodriguez-Gonzalez with violating 8 U.S.C. § 1326(a) and (b). The case is being investigated by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations.
Rodriguez-Gonzalez is a resident of Mexico, and the indictment alleges that he was previously deported from the United States on or about March 2018, after being convicted of an aggravated felony.
The indictment and the charges contained in it are only allegations. Rodriguez-Gonzalez is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
The case is being prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
The alleged crime occurred in Wake County, North Carolina. The indictment was returned on April 10, 2024.
