Grimy Times has learned that Jose Zuniga-Amador, a 33-year-old Honduran citizen, was sentenced to 40 months imprisonment for his role in Illegal Re-Entry After Deportation By An Aggravated Felon in the Southern District of Illinois.
Zuniga-Amador’s sentencing hearing took place on January 22, 2016, and was the culmination of an investigation conducted by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) and the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department.
According to court documents, Zuniga-Amador had previously been deported from the United States to Honduras on five separate occasions between 2000 and 2012.
Zuniga-Amador pled guilty to the federal charge on October 7, 2015, and was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment on his new federal case. Additionally, his supervised release was revoked on a previous 2012 federal conviction for the same offense, resulting in an additional 10 months imprisonment.
As a result, Zuniga-Amador’s total sentence is 40 months imprisonment, which will be served consecutively. Upon release from federal prison, the Court noted that Zuniga-Amador will be placed in deportation proceedings.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert L. Garrison.
