BUFFALO, N.Y. – A Greece Man Charged with Bank Robbery in New York
Joseph Cumbo, 34, of Greece, N.Y., has been arrested and charged with bank robbery in Buffalo, N.Y.
The charge of bank robbery carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The alleged crime occurred on February 18, 2014, at the Bank of America branch located at 5091 Broadway in Depew, N.Y.
According to the complaint, Cumbo handed a demand note to the teller stating, “I have a gun, count out $10,000 quickly.” The defendant is also suspected in two other bank robberies, one in Cheektowaga, N.Y. and one in Pittsford, N.Y.
Cumbo made an initial appearance this morning before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy. He is being held pending a detention hearing on March 17, 2014 at 9:30 a.m.
The investigation was conducted by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, detectives with the Depew Police Department under the direction of Chief Stan Carwile, detectives with the Cheektowaga Police Department under the direction of Chief David Zack, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department under the direction of Sheriff Patrick M. O’Flynn, and detectives with the Greece Police Department under the direction of Chief Todd Baxter.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and Cumbo is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
