Joseph Perkins, a 31-year-old man from Philadelphia, is going to spend the next seven years behind bars. Perkins was sentenced to 84 months in prison and three years of supervised release by United States District Judge Karen S. Marston for robbing four city banks in a two-week span.
The crimes committed by Perkins are as follows:
- The August 26, 2024, robbery of the Citizens Bank branch located inside the ACME Market at 2497 Aramingo Avenue, Philadelphia.
- The August 29, 2024, robbery of the Citizens Bank branch located at 2101 Cottman Avenue, Philadelphia.
- The September 4, 2024, robbery of the TD Bank branch located at 6304 Roosevelt Boulevard, Philadelphia.
- The September 7, 2024, robbery of the TD Bank branch located at 2267 East Butler Street, Philadelphia.
Perkins received cash in the first three robberies but fled the fourth empty-handed. The case was investigated by the FBI Philadelphia Violent Crimes Task Force and the Philadelphia Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kwambina Coker.
U.S. Attorney David Metcalf announced the sentencing, stating that Perkins will face stiff penalties for his crimes. The sentence reflects the severity of the offenses committed by Perkins, who targeted innocent civilians and caused fear in the community.
The evidence presented in court showed that Perkins would present threatening demand notes to bank personnel in order to obtain and abscond with money. Perkins pleaded guilty in March to the four counts of bank robbery.
The citizens of Philadelphia can rest easier knowing that Perkins will no longer be a threat on the streets. The Philadelphia community can now begin to heal and move forward from the trauma caused by Perkins’ actions.
