Cleveland Man Charged with Gun Possession
A Cleveland man with a history of domestic violence has been indicted for possessing a firearm, raising concerns about public safety.
Joshua Hych, a 24-year-old Cleveland resident, was indicted in federal court on one count of possession of a firearm after misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
The indictment alleges that Hych possessed a Taurus 9mm handgun on Sept. 26, despite having been convicted of domestic violence in the Parma Municipal Court in 2012 and 2015.
The case was investigated by the Cleveland Division of Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney James Lewis is prosecuting the case.
Hych’s prior convictions for domestic violence are a significant factor in the current indictment. If convicted, his sentence will be determined by the court after reviewing factors such as his prior criminal record, role in the offense, and characteristics of the violation. The statutory maximum sentence will be taken into account.
