Berlin, New Hampshire – In a shocking case of prison violence, Joshua Starr, 30, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for federal weapon possession charges. The sentence was handed down in United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire on November 2015.
Starr, a former inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution in Berlin, New Hampshire, was caught with a six-inch plastic stabbing weapon during a routine cell search in November 2015. This is not Starr’s first brush with the law, as he was previously prosecuted and convicted in federal district court in New Hampshire for possession of a similar weapon as an inmate at FCI Berlin.
The investigation into Starr’s activities was led by the Federal Correctional Institution in Berlin, New Hampshire, in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nick Abramson prosecuted the case.
Starr’s 18-month sentence will be served consecutive to his current prison sentence, making him eligible to return to society in the next two years. The incident highlights the ongoing struggle with violence in prisons across the United States.
