Felon in Possession Lands Corpus Christi Man 13-Year Prison Sentence

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Joshua Wallace, 39, has been handed a harsh 160-month prison sentence for his conviction of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. United States Attorney Kenneth Magidson announced the sentencing, alongside Melvin King Jr., special agent in charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Wallace entered a guilty plea on Thursday, September 27, 2012. Senior U.S. District Judge Hayden Head sentenced Wallace to the 160-month term, followed by a five-year term of supervised release.

At the plea hearing, Wallace admitted to selling three handguns to an undercover ATF agent in September 2011. The undercover purchases were made on September 13, September 14, and September 27, 2011, in Corpus Christi and were captured by concealed audio and video recording devices.

Wallace’s lengthy rap sheet includes four previous burglary convictions and one conviction of possession of heroin. His guilty plea and sentencing come after his arrest on August 28, 2012. Wallace will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.

The case was investigated by the ATF and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sam Brown IV. The harsh sentence sends a clear message that felons will not be tolerated in possession of firearms.

Wallace’s downfall highlights the importance of community cooperation with law enforcement and the consequences of breaking the law. This case serves as a reminder that those who have committed past crimes will face severe penalties if they choose to reoffend.
