A massive cocaine haul was seized in Los Banos, California, as police executed a probation compliance check on Joshymar Estrada, 33.
The officers attempted to contact Estrada at his front door on April 28, 2022, but he fled out the back door and discarded two canvas bags over his backyard fence. The bags contained more than a kilogram of cocaine, including approximately 380 bags of cocaine in various quantities packaged for distribution.
The seized cocaine weighed over 1,000 grams and was packaged in numerous smaller quantities for street-level sales. The additional items seized include unidentified pills and a digital scale, suggesting that Estrada was involved in the production and distribution of the illicit substance.
This case is the product of an investigation by the Los Banos Police Department, the Merced County Probation Department, and Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica A. Massey is prosecuting the case.
Estrada faces a maximum statutory penalty of 40 years in prison and a $5 million fine if convicted. However, any sentence would be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
The charges against Estrada are only allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking in California.
