Convicted Gunman Faces 6 Years in Prison

A 72-month prison sentence was handed down to Josue Marrero, who pleaded guilty to being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, a crime that carries serious consequences. According to the United States Attorney for the District of Puerto Rico, Rosa Emilia Rodríguez-Vélez, Marrero’s actions put the public at risk and warrant severe punishment.

Marrero fled the state of Delaware after an arrest warrant was issued for Controlled Substances violations. He was hiding in a house in the municipality of Toa Alta, PR, when the arresting officers found him in possession of not one, but two firearms. The first was a Glock pistol, .40 caliber, loaded with nine rounds of ammunition and an extra Glock magazine with nine rounds of .40 caliber ammunition. The second was a Smith & Wesson pistol, 9MM caliber, loaded with sixteen rounds of 9MM caliber ammunition and an extra magazine with fifteen rounds of 9MM caliber ammunition.

In addition to the firearms, the officers also seized a box with 41 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition. It’s clear that Marrero’s actions were reckless and posed a significant threat to public safety. His term of imprisonment is followed by a three-year period of supervised release, a stark reminder of the consequences of his actions.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Max Pérez-Bouret, who worked tirelessly to bring Marrero to justice. The FBI, in collaboration with the Puerto Rico Police Department, led the investigation, which ultimately led to Marrero’s capture and conviction.

Marrero’s sentence serves as a warning to others who would engage in similar behavior.
