Federal authorities have charged Juan Washington, 44, with Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition by a Convicted Felon in a case that threatens to send the Uniontown, Pennsylvania, resident to prison for up to 10 years.
According to the Indictment, on or about December 30, 2019, Washington, a convicted felon, was in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine up to $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Ira M. Karoll is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Uniontown City Police Department conducted the investigation leading to the Indictment in this case. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime.
A convicted felon found in possession of a firearm faces the full weight of federal law. In this case, the charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
An indictment is an accusation. Juan Washington is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
