Julio Rodríguez-Febres, Machinegun Possession, Puerto Rico 2019

San Juan, Puerto Rico – Two men have been arrested for their involvement in a shooting that occurred on Three Kings Day in Isla Verde, Puerto Rico.

Julio Rodríguez-Febres and Angel Luis Olmos-Vargas were charged with possession of a machinegun and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, respectively. The shooting occurred on January 6, 2019, at Zokku’s Lounge Restaurant in Isla Verde.

According to the complaint, at least eight individuals exchanged gunfire and killed another man. A review of surveillance camera recordings and law enforcement investigation showed that Rodríguez-Febres and Olmos-Vargas were involved in the shooting.

Assistant United States Attorney Alberto Lopez and Vanessa Bonhomme are in charge of the prosecution of the case. If convicted, Rodríguez-Febres faces a maximum term of ten (10) years of imprisonment.

U.S. Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodríguez-Vélez commended the tireless work of all the agents and prosecutors who investigated this case, saying, ‘Today’s arrests should serve as a clear warning to those who think they own our streets. State and federal law enforcement officers are working together to get them off our streets and we will not rest until our citizens feel safe again.’

The public is reminded that criminal complaints and indictments contain only charges and are not evidence of guilt. Defendants are presumed to be innocent until and unless proven guilty.
