Stephen D. Bagley, Gunpoint Carjacking, Missouri 2014

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A Kansas City, Mo., man was indicted by a federal grand jury today for a brazen carjacking at gunpoint.

Stephen D. Bagley, 25, of Kansas City, Kan., is accused of stealing a 2008 Nissan Altima at gunpoint on June 22, 2014. During the carjacking, Bagley allegedly brandished a Glock .40-caliber pistol, according to court documents.

Bagley, who has a prior felony conviction, was also in possession of ammunition, a federal offense. He is charged with one count of carjacking, one count of using a firearm during a crime of violence, and one count of being a felon in possession of ammunition.

U.S. Attorney Tammy Dickinson cautioned that the charges contained in the indictment are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt. ‘Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence,’ Dickinson said.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jess E. Michaelsen. The Kansas City, Mo., Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the crime.

Bagley is currently being held without bond due to the severity of the charges. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in federal prison for the carjacking charge and up to 10 years for the firearm charge.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information about the crime to come forward. The public’s assistance is crucial in bringing Bagley to justice.
