Katherine Nicholle Brown, 29, of Jefferson City, MO, embezzled $410,000 from Hawthorn Bank in Jefferson City.

Brown, a former lead teller at Hawthorn Bank, pleaded guilty to misappropriation of funds by a bank officer in federal court on an undisclosed date.

The embezzlement occurred from December 2012 to September 19, 2014, when Brown took money from the bank vault for her personal use.

Brown admitted to taking the money in small amounts, placing it in her pockets, and falsifying entries in the vault book to conceal the discrepancies.

On September 19, 2014, Brown shipped five bags of cash to the Federal Reserve Bank, reporting a total of $844,000, but the actual amount was $434,000.

Brown faces a sentence of up to 30 years in federal prison without parole and a fine of up to $1 million.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Lynn and was investigated by the FBI.

Brown’s sentencing hearing will be scheduled after completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.
